Sessions: 8 sections (multi-week study)
This is the story of a man who cared for over 10,000 orphans, built five massive orphanages, and never once
asked another person for money. George MΓΌller's only strategy was prayer β and God answered over 50,000
times. His life is a blueprint for what happens when you take God at His word.
Born in 1805, MΓΌller spent his youth as a liar, a thief, and a con artist. At age 20, at a small prayer
meeting, he encountered Christ. He moved to Bristol, England as a young pastor, and his heart broke for
orphans living on the streets. He made a covenant: he would care for orphans without ever asking another
human for money. He would pray β and only pray.
Key Facts:
π
1805β1898 β lived 92 years of extraordinary faith
π Cared for 10,024 orphans over his lifetime
ποΈ Built 5 large orphanages in Bristol, England
π Documented 50,000+ specific answers to prayer
π° Gave away over Β£180,000 β died with only Β£160
πͺ Reflect
"If God can transform a con artist into the 'Apostle of Faith,' what transformation might He be
working in you right now?"
In 1836, MΓΌller opened his first home for 30 orphan girls β with almost no money. He made a covenant
with God: never ask anyone for donations, never go into debt, never send emotional appeals. His goal
wasn't just to help children. It was to prove, in plain sight, that God is real, God hears, and God
answers.
Psalm 81:10"Open your mouth wide, and I will fill
it."
"The first object of the work was that God might be magnified by the fact that the orphans
under my care are provided with all they need, only by prayer and faith, without anyone being
asked."
β George MΓΌller
πͺ Reflect
"What audacious thing might God be calling you to that seems impossible without His provision?"
β‘ Act
"Write down one God-sized dream you've been afraid to pursue. What would it look like to take one
step toward it this week?"
MΓΌller kept meticulous journals documenting every specific request and every specific answer over 60+
years. He prayed specifically because he wanted specific answers. He believed that vague prayers produce
vague faith β and he wanted his faith anchored in undeniable evidence of God's provision.
Documented Miracles:
π A baker felt compelled to bake bread at 2am β delivered it right when the orphanage had no food
π₯ A milk cart broke down in front of the orphanage β the milkman donated it all
π· Needed Β£10,000 for a new building β it arrived in donations over two years, exactly on time
π€ Prayed for a specific staff member β the person showed up the next day volunteering
π Pray
"Lord, teach me to pray specifically β not vaguely. Give me the faith to ask for concrete things and
the courage to document Your answers."
πͺ Reflect
"When was the last time I prayed for something specific enough that I would know if God answered it?"
β‘ Act
"Start a prayer journal this week. Write down 3 specific requests β with dates β and watch for
answers."
MΓΌller received large inheritances and personal gifts throughout his life, but gave almost all of it
away. He and his wife lived simply β often wearing donated clothes. At his death, his personal estate
was worth only Β£160, having given away over Β£180,000 (equivalent to millions today).
Matthew 6:19β21"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on
earth⦠For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
2 Corinthians 9:7"God loves a cheerful giver."
"God has prospered me in order that I might be a channel of blessing to others."
β George MΓΌller
π Pray
"Father, break my grip on money and possessions. Teach me to hold everything with open hands,
trusting that You are my provider."
πͺ Reflect
"If I'm honest, do I trust my savings account more than I trust God? What would 'open hands' look
like in my life?"
β‘ Act
"Give something sacrificially this week β not from your surplus, but from your need. Test whether God
meets you there."
Over 60+ years, MΓΌller's orphanages provided food, shelter, education, and gospel witness to more than
10,000 children. He didn't just "manage" institutions β he knew the children, prayed for them by name,
and raised them in the faith. His love was concrete: meals, beds, clothes, school, vocational training,
and spiritual formation.
James 2:15β17"If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and
lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, be warmed and filled,' without
giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?"
1 John 3:18"Let us not love in word or talk but in deed and
in truth."
π Pray
"Lord, show me where my faith needs feet. Where am I talking about love without acting on it?"
πͺ Reflect
"Who in my world is 'the orphan' β someone without protection, provision, or anyone fighting for
them?"
β‘ Act
"Identify one person in your community who needs tangible help this week. Don't just pray for them β
do something."
MΓΌller didn't see one big miracle and retire. Every single day for over 60 years, he had to trust God
for food, staff, clothing, and building repairs. He prayed for the salvation of five specific friends.
Two came to faith after 10 years. Two more after 25 years. The fifth was saved after MΓΌller's own death
β 52 years after the first prayer.
Galatians 6:9"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at
the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Hebrews 10:36"You need to persevere so that when you have
done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised."
π Pray
"God, give me the grace to keep praying when answers are slow. Teach me that faithfulness, not speed,
is the measure of real faith."
πͺ Reflect
"What prayer have I given up on because the answer didn't come fast enough? Is God asking me to keep
going?"
β‘ Act
"Pick one 'impossible' prayer request. Commit to praying for it daily for the next 90 days β no
matter what."
In over 60 years and tens of thousands of meals, not a single meal was ever missed. There were many
mornings with no food and no money β but every single time, God provided before mealtime. The most
famous story: the children sat at the table with empty plates. MΓΌller gave thanks for the meal they
didn't have yet. Then a baker knocked β and minutes later, a milkman's cart broke down in front.
Breakfast was served.
Philippians 4:19"My God will supply every need of yours
according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."
Matthew 6:33"Seek first the kingdom of God and his
righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
"The children sat at the table with empty plates. MΓΌller gave thanks for what they didn't
have yet. Then the baker knocked."
π Pray
"Father, I confess I often trust my plans and my paycheck more than I trust You. Teach me to depend
on You daily."
πͺ Reflect
"Where in my life am I telling God 'I trust You' while also keeping a backup plan just in case He
doesn't show up?"
β‘ Act
"Fast from complaining about a financial need this week. Every time you're tempted to worry, turn it
into a specific prayer instead."
MΓΌller refused to fundraise, write emotional appeals, drop hints, or manipulate donors. His reasoning
was devastatingly simple: "If I ask people, they might give out of pity or guilt. If I ask God, He gives
out of His glory β and others see His faithfulness, not my sales pitch." Every donation was a genuine
miracle β unsolicited, uncoerced, and clearly from God's hand.
Proverbs 3:5β6"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and
do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight
your paths."
James 4:10"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will
exalt you."
"If I ask people, they might give out of pity or guilt. If I ask God, He gives out of His
glory β and others see His faithfulness."
β George MΓΌller
π Pray
"Lord, strip away my need to control outcomes. Help me trust You enough to stop manipulating
circumstances and people."
πͺ Reflect
"Where am I working harder to impress people or manage their perception than I am to simply trust
God?"
β‘ Act
"Identify one situation where you need to stop 'helping God' and start trusting Him. Let go of
control for one week."
Practical Steps:
π Start a prayer journal β write specific requests with dates and record every answer
π― Pray specifically: "God, help me" becomes "God, I need $500 for rent by Friday"
π€ Fast from complaining about needs β turn complaints into prayers
πΈ Give sacrificially β test whether you trust God more than your savings
π
Commit to pray for one "impossible" thing for one year and watch God work
π Read MΓΌller's journals or biography β let his stories fuel your faith
π€ Share your prayer requests with a trusted brother or sister β and report answers together
π Pray
"Father, give me the faith of George MΓΌller β not to impress anyone, but to know You more intimately
through answered prayer."
πͺ Reflect
"What is the one thing I've been afraid to ask God for because I'm not sure He'll come through?"
β‘ Act
"Write down your three boldest prayer requests today. Date them. Pray over them daily. Come back in
90 days and see what God has done."
